Although Dae O’Donnell has long been aware of her psychic gift for finding things, and has recently learned to live with her newer gift as an empath, she is unprepared when her talents take a sudden turn for the worse. She is suddenly able to hear the dead and communicate with a missing child.

Dae continues in her role as mayor of Duck, North Carolina, but there is an election coming and the outcome is uncertain. Further uncertainty in Dae’s life is the sudden appearance of her boyfriend Kevin’s ex-fiancée. The ex-fiancée, Ann, is a powerful psychic, stronger than Dae has ever been. With murder and a missing child on her mind, Dae finds herself in a quandary about how to resolve both her personal and public life while involved in the most emotionally charged search for the truth she has ever faced.

I have read this series from the beginning and enjoyed the continuing development of Dae’s extraordinary psychic skills. The Lavenes are adept at bringing depth to their characters and flipping the switches that make readers really care about them.

Fans of this series will enjoy A Haunting Dream, and fans of the Lavene’s other series will want to read the Missing Pieces Mysteries in their entirety.

Reviewer's Note: The Lavene’s other series include The Renaissance Faire Mysteries, The Peggy Lee Garden Mysteries. The Telltale Turtle was a stand-alone psychic pet mystery that I particularly loved.
