Samantha Ryan is a witch who, as Samantha Castor, once was part of a Salem coven that attempted to raise a demon. As a result, her coven was destroyed - all except her. Now a Christian, she fights her unique skills, yet subconscious doors open to her younger self at various ages, each of which offers advice on how to use her dormant skills so she can remain safe from enemies.

Samantha, homicide detective, relocates to the San Francisco Police Department for her job. When she investigates the strange death of historian Winona Lightfoot, whose body is petrified, she realizes that witchcraft is involved and running away from her past was pointless. Now she must use her unique skills to battle the witches who frequent the Santa Cruz Mountain, and the coven's leader, who is determined to release a powerful and evil threat that could shake California to its core.

The Last Grave was a fast-paced and exciting novel with magical, yet quite scary paranormal elements. Debbie Viguie definitely knows about witchcraft, and her novel's solid plot and surprising twists kept me reading through the night. I haven't read the first release in the series, but the author has done a great job of weaving the back story into the current plot at appropriate times for me to understand the main character's fears and desires, and to admire her courage against almost insurmountable odds. This novel ended with a cliffhanger, leading no doubt into the next release in the series.

If you love paranormal witchcraft novels with a great mystery, this is a must. I was hooked, but if you're new to the Witch Hunt Novel series, I would suggest starting with the first release to get the full impact of this exciting new series by a fantastic author.

Reviewer's Note: NYT bestselling author. The Thirteenth Sacrifice: A Witch Hunt Novel was book 1 in the series.

Reviewer Linda Morelli is the award winning author of three published romance novels.
