Who
knew that being a board member could be hazardous to your
health? The day started off innocently enough with Nell Pratt
reading the obituaries on her way into work. She was always
looking to see if there might be a possible bequest from a
former board member for the Pennsylvania Antiquarian Society
in Philadelphia. Nell spots the obituary of former Society
board member Adeline Harrison – she knew her slightly.
It is not surprising to lose an octogenarian. Well, later
that day Nell gets a call from her significant other, FBI
agent James Morrison. He seems to think Adeline was murdered
and her murder could be connected to another philanthropist
death in New Jersey.
Nell
and Shelby Carver, with help from Marty Terwilliger, put together
a spreadsheet that shows that around 40 people fit the same
profile and any of them could be the next person to be murdered.
James calls and has added a third victim to his list of dead
philanthropists. Nell needs to put on her thinking cap and
figure out the connection or a priceless person could be lost
forever.
Things
to ponder: Why murder three seemingly harmless elderly philanthropists?
Could Marty Terwilliger’s acquaintance with all three
deceased make her the next target? Will Nicholas Naylor ever
break down and smile?
Sheila
Connolly has written another winner in her Museum Mystery
series. I love the characters especially Marty Terwilliger
– always popping up and happy to add her two cents.
The facts and history that Ms. Connolly provides certainly
adds to the charm of the story. I was drawn in from the very
beginning and I found that the pace never slowed. It was a
real page turner for me. The author also writes the very popular
Orchard Mysteries and County Cork Mysteries. So, if you like
mysteries with a savvy protagonist, then you should read Monument
To The Dead.
