Sophreena McClure and Esme Sabatier are reporting to Dorothy Pritchett Porter about the progress they have made on her family history. Soph is a genealogist and Esme is her business partner. Esme is also a psychic medium. Please don’t tell anyone – she likes to keep that information on the down low. Especially since Dorothy’s late grandmother Sarah told Esme where to find the family ruby and diamond ring! They have promised Dorothy that the heritage scrapbooks would indeed be ready for her on Founder’s Day.

While this is a really good paying job, both are glad to leave the Porter residence and return home. Soph and Esme are having their weekly meeting with friends and working on their family history projects. The food is good and the company is even better. That is until the police arrive and they all find out Dorothy Pritchett Porter is dead …probably murdered. So Soph and Esme are questioned by the cops and they better make sure they have a good alibi since they seem to be suspects 1 and 2.

Things to ponder: Why does Detective Denton Carlson direct the majority of his questions to Esme? Where is the ruby and diamond ring? Why not take Dorothy’s other valuable jewelry? Why was it important for Vivian to become close friends with Dorothy?

I always love finding a new author and series - I think of it as an extra-special present to myself. This book does not disappoint. It was a really good read. I loved the dynamics between the two friends. I read it rather quickly as I couldn’t tear myself away. I hope the author is busy writing the next book in the series so I don’t have to wait too long for another fix. So, if you like your mystery surrounded by family secrets, then this is a book you should read.
