Maggie
Grady has moved back home to Durham, NC after the bank she
worked at accused her of embezzling funds. She has moved in
with her Aunt Clara and is working with her at her shop Pie
in the Sky. Six weeks after arriving, Maggie's ex- boss, Lou
Goldberg, shows up and tells her he know who the real embezzler
is and will hold a press conference in the morning and tell
all then. He will make sure she gets her job back too.
Too bad
Lou didn't hold the press conference right away, since Maggie
found him dead behind the shop's back door. Of course the
police think Maggie is a person of interest. With Aunt Clara
"helping" her, Maggie should end up in jail before
you know it. Maggie will have to solve the murder if she wants
to remain free. She better be careful or she could end up
sifted.
Things
to Ponder: Who is the person that accused Maggie of embezzling
from the bank? Will Mann Development buy out the shop owners
and put up a medical building on the land? Will Ryan Summerour
keep his word and not write about Aunt Clara in the Durham
Weekly?
What
a great start to a new series. Take a spunky heroine; add
a loving aunt and a pinch of a sexy guy and you have a wonderful
read. The author has also included some of the mouthwatering
pie recipes mentioned in the book. This book is well plotted
and will keep you guessing whodunit. This is a fast paced
read that kept me turning the pages until I finished it in
the wee hours. So if you like your mystery with a slice of
pie and a cup of coffee or tea, then you should be reading
Plum Deadly. By the way Ellie Grant is a pseudonym
for the authors Joyce and Jim Lavene - two of my very favorites.
