““Private Berlin” is another story of the investigative firm Private, owned by Jack Morgan, an American. Private has offices all over the world. This is our first visit to the Berlin office, and I hope it is not our last. The story begins when top Private investigator Chris Schneider went to a place called “The Slaughterhouse, just outside of Berlin. Then, he went missing.

Mattie Engel, another top investigator at Private and Chris’ ex-fiancée, knew that Chris would never leave in the middle of an investigation, and he was working on three different cases. He would never go anywhere without checking in with Private, but they hadn’t heard from him in three days. Chris was in trouble and there was only one way to find him. Private had a locator chip implanted, if the employee wanted it. Chris had the chip implanted.

They followed the signal to The Slaughterhouse. The signal showed movement, so Mattie, who still loved Chris, was excited. But when they entered the building, they didn’t see anyone. They told the tracker, who told Mattie that Chris was in front of her. Her flashlight showed a rat with the chip in its mouth. Chris was still missing.

“Private Berlin” is one of James Patterson’s best books ever. I usually nap on rainy days, but this book kept me wide awake. I did not want to put it down for any reason!

The tension in this thrill keeps rising. The characters, living, breathing human beings, though one’s so evil that all semblance to a human is gone save for looks, chase a killer all over Berlin and the surrounding area. The plot, a living thing, keeps growing and changing. Read by January LaVoy and Ari Fliakos, the story brings the madness of the predator against the intelligence of a survivor. Listen to this book! You’ll never regret it.
