First
in series, “Eggs
In Purgatory,” introduced us to the Crackleberry
Club Café. The Café is run by Suzanne
and her enthusiastic partners Toni and Petra. These
strong, positive characters are back in book four, “Stake
and Eggs”. I have to say, it’s nice to visit
the Café and the small town of Kindred, again.
In the midst of a mystery, readers will find the café’
crackles with energy and delicious dishes. The scenes
are so well written, I could hear the sounds of clinking
dishes and chatting customers not to mention the delightful
aromas of breakfast. Yum. Readers will appreciate the
recipes at the back of the book.
In
“Stake and Eggs” the mystery takes off by
page four. The local banker, Ben, is meeting Suzanne
to discuss Kindred’s winter celebration - Winter
Blaze. Ben rides his snow mobile to the café.
Unfortunately it’s his last ride through the woods.
When Suzanne discovers the body the scene is unsettling
– the author gives it a truly chilling effect.
When word is out that the unlikable banker is dead,
others show up at the café vying for his job.
The banker’s local “doings” has Suzanne
and Sheriff Doogie looking in different directions –
and with all of Kindred hating him, as well, the suspect
list is notably long…
Also
showing up at the café’ via a break-in
is a young Runaway with secrets. Suzanne finds herself
deep in a murder and concern for the mysterious runaway.
Are the two connected? And what about the victim’s
haughty widow? Will town-folk coldly send her packing?
The mystery moves from the café’ to the
winter celebration. I have to say there is nothing scarier
than fast moving vehicles - of any kind – during
icy weather. Brrrr….The ride doesn’t stop
until the very last page.
It’s
a cozy full of clues, recipes, and snow mobile adventures.
Don’t miss it!
