Candy Holliday and Maggie Tremont have taken over running Mr. Gumm’s pumpkin patch to earn a little money to see them through the winter in Cape Willington, ME. They are selling tons of pumpkins and lots of locally made yummies. Recently, they have incorporated a haunted hay ride. Things are really looking up since Maggie has even rented the Sapphire Vine house, which is said to be haunted or maybe… cursed. They are just getting ready to do the first hayride run of the day when a man runs up and wants to talk to Candy. She talks him into taking the hayride with the other tourists. The only glitch is that the house renter is late to pick up the keys to the house.

Everyone is enjoying themselves on the hayride, learning all the local lore. They come across a huge pile of pumpkins – where there should be no pumpkins! And then they see a leg sticking out of the pile of pumpkins. Looks like it is time for Candy to dust off her deer-stalker cap and use her instincts to solve this murder.
Things to ponder: Who is TJ? Did he have something to do with the dead man? Who was the dead man meeting?

This was a fun read and for me a page turner. I enjoyed spending time with these characters and solving the murder with Candy. Best of all, the plot will keep you guessing. So if you like your mystery with a touch of Halloween spookiness, then this is one book you should read.

Reviewer's Note: There are some wonderful recipes to try included in the book. This book takes place right around Halloween.
