Agatha
Raisin hates amateur dramatics, and pantomimes in particular
but the Winter Parva one is worst than most. Things get decidedly
more interesting when the local baker, who is playing the
ogre, is banished by the good fairy and vanishes through the
trap door? to his death. Agatha is hired by one of the players
to find whodunit, a task that will lead her down many strange
and dangerous paths before she discovers the killer’s
identity.
I’ve read nearly all of the vast number of books this
talented author has written, but the Agatha Raisin titles
are my favorites. Agatha is a realistic creation, a heady
mixture of flaws and virtues and she gets to show all of them
in this lively tale. All the other series characters are here
as well giving the reader a chance to catch up with life in
Carsely. This is one of the best things about long running
series of books and this one is no exception. Nor do the plots
show any signs of getting stale as there is plenty of humor,
some surprises and many twists and turns. In most detective
stories the murder is solved over a few days but as we know
in real life it is usually different. As in most of the other
books, Agatha and the police take some time to get to the
bottom of this one, making it seem more genuine. To say more
would spoil the plot, so if you’re a fan dig in and
if you aren’t, book one and a big treat await you. Also
included in this book is the short story Agatha
Raisin and the Christmas Crumble, which was released as
an eBook last Christmas.
