Just
when Annie is enjoying her bookstore and getting the latest
paintings out, things go south in Broward’s Rock. An
artist is charged with the murder of his wife. Annie and Max
are sure he’s innocent. Max leads the investigation
as Annie follows. They butt heads with Police Chief Billy,
who resents Annie’s amateur sleuthing. The body count
rises -- one death being a close friend. With too many murders
and too few clues, it’s overwhelming. Then they discover
some people are holding back valuable information. Annie asks
her mystery group for help (Henny, Emma, and her mother-in-law,
Laurel). How will they solve it?
Death
at the Door begins with Hart’s usual introduction
of the characters, but this time she amps up the suspense
as the victim senses something is about to happen. It certainly
had me mesmerized. The suspect list shifts endlessly as Hart
supplies plenty of twists and turns. I enjoyed trying to figure
it out. I also have to say mother in law Laurel shows a softer
side in this mystery. It’s about time because I was
ready to give up on her as a character. Readers are reminded
of how wealthy, beautiful and intelligent Max and Annie are
as they live the good life on an island, drive fast cars and
have a bookstore as a hobby. We should all be so lucky.
Highly
Recommended.
