Camellia Harris and her best friend
Annie Schulz are planning a murder. Actually, it is a murder
mystery themed event which will include a silent auction with
bidding on the murder victim. Highest bid picks the victim.
The 1920’s era event is being held at the Huntington
Hills Country Club. This political fund-raiser is for Jared
Koontz. He will announce his candidacy for Virginia State
Senate.
Finally the big
day has arrived. Despite major interference from former Roanoke
Garden Society employee, Samantha Hollister, things are going
off splendidly. Cam even has some time to enjoy the flower
displays. After the Great Gatsby inspired meal, catered by
Cam’s sister and brother-in-law, the game starts. While
the torch singer is singing her heart out, Cam hears a crash
and a shot. Since Annie is in charge of the murder, Cam has
no idea who the victim will be. Cam finds Derrick Windermere
on the ground and bloody. She thinks the “special effects”
look real. It looks as if Derrick is really dead…..wait
he is! Just then Cam gets a call from Annie wondering why
she is not at the scene of the faux crime. Cam will have to
solve this murder in order to find the killer. She better
be very careful or she could end up being pulled out by her
roots.
Things to ponder:
Where is Alden Schulz? Was there a kidnapping at the Hunting
Hills Country Club? Why did “Cruella” cut short
her trip?
Such
a fun read. This third in the Garden Society Mystery series
does not disappoint. Our favorite characters are back. The
story is well –plotted and will keep you turning those
pages. The author has included plenty of twists and turns
that make you need to know whodunit. So if you like your mystery
filled with florals, then you should be reading Keeping
Mum.
