Lila
Wilkins enjoys her new career as a literary agent at the Novel
Idea Literary Agency, located in Inspiration Valley, North
Carolina. She loves her personal life too, with her eccentric
mother, her college-age son, and her comfy, cozy cottage.
When
her boss, Bentley Burlington-Duke, gives her an assignment
to help with a book signing for author Damian York's new gardening
book, Lila's glad to help. However, when she's told she has
to get her own garden in shape for the Inspiration Valley's
Annual Garden Walk, she's worried about getting it done in
time. She enlists her son, Trey, and some of his friends to
dig up some unsightly shrubbery, only to find that trouble
has taken root in her garden-- in the form of a human skull!
A murder
of a garden club member serves to bring the trouble above
ground, and it's up to Lila to sort through the tangled web
of figurative weeds to find the true root of the evil in Inspiration
Valley.
I've
enjoyed every book in this series, and was excited to have
the chance to review Played by the Book. It did not
disappoint me in the least, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In
fact, author Lucy Arlington summed up my own feelings about
this book in a description of how Lila felt about a book she
was reading. "That's the thing I love most about a well-crafted
story: The story line and the characters stay with me even
after the last page."
This
is a fun read, especially for book lovers who also love gardening.
With a cast of unique characters, a dash of romance, and Lila's
smooth yellow Vespa, the latest "Novel Idea Mystery"
is sure to kick-start your reading pleasure! |
