Author
Laura Bradford states, “While writing is a solitary
profession in many ways, I draw strength and smiles from the
people around me…” As a reader of all of her books,
those written as Elizabeth Lynn Casey included, I feel so
included in the lives and towns she creates, as if the characters
could indeed be real-life friends, and that is an honor. I
frequently find myself smiling at the little nuances woven
into her storytelling. Laura, you are not alone, and you make
me as a reader feel welcome into your richly imaginative and
smart small town stories.
Shunned
and Dangerous is just the third book in the Amish Mystery
Series, but the character and development of backstories rivals
those of other series that are six or seven books into a series.
Claire Weatherly faces facts about her financial situation
and realizes that she may not be able to keep her beloved
shop, Heavenly Treasures, in business. Her employee and dear
friend, Esther, is engaged to Eli, and once she is an Amish
wife, Esther will no longer be able to work at the shop anyway,
which serves to add to Claire’s growing disappointment.
Then there is her love life – or lack thereof. There
are two men in town she is interested in, one who is Amish
and the other who has been shunned.
Before
she can dwell too much on these problems, Claire comes across
a murder victim in Mose Fisher’s corn maze, and figuring
out who killed Harley Zook, a local Amish dairy farmer, takes
priority…before the wrong man goes to jail or the killer
strikes again. One of the men Claire is interested in is Detective
Jakob Fisher, shunned Amish man, who may be forced to arrest
his own father: the father who renounced him when he became
a cop.
