“Lots of people
talked to their animals. Mine talked back.” Foxtrot
Lancaster, To Die Fur
Deirdre "Foxtrot" Lancaster works for Billionaire
Zelda Zoransky (ZZ). Foxtrot is arranging a meeting for buyers
and preparing a cage for a unique liger that is being delivered
to the rescue Zoo. The cage and pool is ready, and Tango (a
cat on her seventh life) is in love – sight unseen.
The buyers present their cases, each with different view in
the hopes of gaining ZZ’s favor, but before a buyer
is chosen, Augustus, the Liger, is found dead - murdered.
Looking for the murderer should be Foxtrot’s only concern
but it seems Augustus is quite unique on the other side, as
well. Foxtrot finds herself promoted from graveyard sentinel
to afterlife diplomat. Surprisingly Foxtrot finds time for
a love life, or a semblance of one. She’s just not ready
to tell Ben her love interest/cook/Thunderbird about the graveyard
and animal spirits. No worries, Eli, the white crow, who watches
over the graveyard, does it for her. Trust me; life at the
rescue zoo has just started to get interesting.
To Die Fur is second in series. It’s written in first
person. Foxtrot is a strong lead character and her side-kicks,
Tango (cat) and Whiskey (ghost dog) entertain readers with
their telepathic bickering. I actually laughed out loud. The
series moves beyond ghostly animals and a Thunderbird who
controls the weather but direction Lyle takes with Ben and
the Liger’s afterlife will have this series soaring
to new heights. I was blown away. The mystery itself is well
thought out; just enough clues and twists to keep us guessing.
I look forward to the next in series.
