Beatrice
Coleman is loving life in Dappled Hills, North Carolina. She
retired there to be closer to her daughter, Piper, and has
quickly made several friends in the close-knit community.
Most of her friends are quilters, and Beatrice enjoys the
fellowship of the Village Quilters guild.
Beatrice's
gentleman friend, Wyatt, has a sister named Harper, who is
getting married. During the wedding reception, the man who
was supposed to be the best man dies. Someone killed Trevor
Garber, and there are quite a few suspects. Since Beatrice
has had some success in solving murders before, it's a given
that she'll snoop...with a little help from her friends.
The Southern
Quilting Mystery series continues to evolve in a smart way.
As new characters are introduced, the longer standing members
of the storyline become more in-depth and rich. The relationships
between the quilters are unique, and I love Miss Sissy's crankiness
as much as I love Beatrice's level-headedness, and Meadow's
well-intentioned meddling.
While
it's a great escape into a cozy mystery, Dappled Hills feels
real enough that I'd love to visit there, and meet all the
friends and their families. There are special dogs and cats
in the town, too, as well as The Patchwork Cottage quilting
shop, and the annual spring festival.
This
was an enjoyable read full of murder and motives, suspects
and clues, romance and quilting and there are even recipes
and quilting tips at the back of the book. You can't go wrong
with a visit to Dappled Hills! So who killed the best man?
You'll have to read the book to find out! My lips are sealed!
