Not many have to look into a watery grave just after breakfast, but Harry Bosch took a hint from an FBI agent about a killer so off he goes into the cold black on blue. As we listen to Bosch’s thoughts, we can only hope he’ll find what he’s looking for. The author delivers a punch now and again as we listen in on the search. His words during the boat ride are dark and fluid. Narrator Titus Welliver delivers a solemn narration of just how it is.

Blue on Black was first published in Hook, Line & Sinister back in 2010. The 2016 audio version lasts an intense seventeen minutes. I listened to it three times. Both author and narrator do an amazing job of drawing listeners into Bosch’s world -- a world where only those like Bosch are able to cope.

Black on Blue is a short story that delivers.
