Hunt the Dragon is my introduction to this series; I noticed a spoiler
or two, so if you want the full effect of Mann & Pezzullo’s
Seal team, I recommend starting with the first in series,
Hunt the Wolf.
Mann and Pezzullo are true to their Seal team characters.
In the series, their world is split in two - work and personal
- and the two should never meet, but sometimes a personal
memory can’t help but sneak in, just before the Seals
move in….
Chief Warrant Officer Thomas Crocker is the team leader.
He’s survived circumstances that everyday people only
see in the movies. He knows firsthand a Seal can lounge by
a pool in Las Vegas one day and rescue a scientist in South
Korea the next… Anything and everything is possible
in their world, including an enemy trying to create a war
between America and North Korea in the hopes that America
would suffer a nuclear attack. In Hunt the Dragon, Crocker
leads Team Six into an action-packed world of spies, power
hungry leaders, counterfeit funds, and nuclear fears. To me,
it seems alarming all too real…
The characters, both heroes and enemies, are memorable. Readers/Listeners
can expect plenty of action, mostly when the team is trying
to retreat. Actor Peter Ganim narrates the audio version.
Ganim has lent his voice to various fiction and nonfiction
titles. It took a couple chapters for me to get use to his
narration, because his voice switches back and forth between
documentary and relaxed. His inflection becomes sharp and
goes up and down at some points. It seems to relax a bit with
some of the characters, but not all. Once the storyline took
off I stopped noticing.
Hunt The Dragon is an impressive addition to the
Seal Team Six series. It is a military theme series, which
means R-rated content. Remember your headset.
