From the back cover: “Reporter
rose McNichols moonlights as a stand-up comic at Shady Nook
Nursing Home. There she meets Mable Smithwick, a former socialite
with a secret: Mabel witnessed a drowning at her pool last summer.
However, the elderly woman is not a credible witness. But when
she turns up dead, Rose wishes she'd paid more attention. Before
long, Rose herself feels threatened...”
Rose McNichols’ hours have been cut at the Granite
Cove Gazelle, so she's moonlighting as a stand-up comic. Her
show at the Shady Nook Nursing Home gets off to a slow start
when she can't remember the punch line of her pantyhose joke....but
things head even further south when a resident dies after
a bookcase falls on her. She's on the bed of her roommate,
wearing the roommates slippers, and the roommate, Mabel Smithwick
believes she was the intended victim!
As Rose learns more and more about what's really going on
in town, I became more and more fascinated with the unique
and sometimes hilarious characters. The murder plot and the
various sub plots are written in a natural manner, with the
story unfolding in such a subtle way that I found myself reading
chapter after chapter because I had to find out what was going
to happen next!
This series has something for everyone and is appropriate
for book clubs and online book groups. Laugh 'til You
Die is a real page-turner, suspenseful, funny, and very
realistic in it's portrayal of a coastal New England town.
You can't go wrong with a Sharon Love Cook mystery, and I
look forward to the next one!
