Brew pub owner Maxine
“Max” O’Hara and her chef/boyfriend, Jake
Lambert, are about to take on the Three Rivers Brews and Burgers
Festival and showcase their talents. However, standing in
the way of accomplishing their dreams of a good showing at
the festival is renowned cranky critic Reginald Mobley. And
is he ever out to let people know that he thinks a female
has no business being a brew master or a brew pub owner. Not
long after Reginald delivers a terrible review of Allegheny
Brew House, he winds up dead in front of a large crowd after
sampling Jake's burger. It's no wonder that Max and Jake get
served up to the police as the main murder suspects.
Joyce
Tremel has written another home run with this book. I read
the first book in the series immediately before I started
reading this book and I have to say I was sucked into this
series; hops, yeast and barley (hook, link and sinker - too
much?). The characters in this series are so realistic and
fun. I love the interactions between the two main characters,
Max and Jake. They can stand on their own as intriguing, but
put them together and there is a special chemistry that starts
to bubble and brew. The entire cast of supporting characters
each bring a unique ingredient to the story as well. I never
thought that I would enjoy a book about brewing beer, but
I have to tell you, it makes me want to try my hand at a home
brew! And can we just stop and admire the covers of this series
for a minute? They are just beautifully drawn.
Overall,
Tangled Up in Brew was another great addition to
a smashing series start! The mystery will have you guessing
right up until the end, and the beer and food will have you
drooling all the way through the book. Don't miss out on the
mouth-watering recipes in the back of the book to help satisfy
your growling belly!
