Bone
White reintroduces readers to former NYPD Detective Sullivan
Leary who is drawn back to Mundy’s Landing following
a gruesome discovery. At Mundy’s Landing there is also
someone trying to rediscover her family background-Emerson
Mundy. Emerson is drawn due to some interesting century old
family letters and she wants to know more about her family.
The mystery
behind the gruesome discovery and how it connects to the letters
is interesting and not expected. It works well in a small
town like Mundy’s Landing. It is small enough where
everyone knows everyone but big enough that it still creates
a mystery for some of its residents and guests. The character
development of Emerson is creative, including a genetic trait
that ends up playing a huge role in the book. It was a great
example of how something small ends up playing a huge role.
In looking
back, I feel that I should have picked up on the whodunit
before it was told. This is a great testament to the author’s
creativity. I would recommend that readers read the other
Mundy Landing series before picking up Bone White. I had not
and feel like I am missing out on some of the character development
of Sullivan Leary and other characters in the town.
