The
Christmas Mystery is the second Detective Luc Moncrief
mystery in Patterson's Book Shot Series. The holiday storyline
is delivered in first person by the French Detective. This
gives us an intimate look into the detective’s thoughts
about his case, his partner and the City. Kate Burke is still
Moncrief’s partner. The two have a mutual respect for
each other.
The storyline
takes two directions; first it’s Park Avenue and second,
a Socialite is murdered. The two follow stolen art, real and
fake, to solve the murder. Moncrief
lost a loved-one in the last mystery and it looks like he’s
lost another. Burke and Moncrief head off to Paris when they
get the news. A family death looks suspicious so the two take
a personal look into it. There are enough twists, character
interaction, humor and intensity to keep listeners entertained.
On a side note, listeners will either enjoy or cringe at Moncrief’s
take on Christmas in New York.
Canadian
actor Jean Brassard narrates the second in the series, and
once again, does an outstanding job.
James
Patterson and Richard DiLallo make a great team. For those
of you who don’t know, DiLallo co-authored Alex
Cross's Trial, as well as other Book Shot short stories
with Patterson. I look forward to more by these two.
