Emma Lee Raines is an undertaker and proprietor of the Eternal Slumber Funeral Home. As a “Betweener” she sees the ghosts of murdered victims and helps them find peace with the help of her boyfriend, Jack Henry Ross, Sheriff of Sleepy Hollow.

Fortunately, her mortuary has hit a slow period, which allows Emma Lee to arrange her high school class reunion. Unfortunately, her high school arch nemesis, Jade Lee Peel, arrives to put Emma Lee down, just as she did in high school. Worse, the ex-prom school queen has made it big and is being filmed for a reality show. She even wants to feature her past relationship with Jack as part of the reality show. Emma Lee remembers how mean Jade was in high school, and although Emma Lee trusts Jack, she can’t help but fear the worst.

That is, until Jade appears to her as a ghost. And Emma Lee knows she won’t be rid of Jade until she and Jack find Jade’s killer. But that’s not as easy as it sounds, for Jade managed to make a lot of people angry, from high school to the film crew and beyond. And the cast of possible suspects just keeps growing.

This series is one of my ultimate favorites. Ms. Kappes always manages to fill the pages with wonderful down-to-earth characters who feel like old friends. I love Emma Lee’s sensitivity, her kindness and caring. I also enjoy the hilarious antics of Emma Lee’s Granny, who runs the Sleepy Hollow Inn and has a love interest in Doc Clyde. Then there's sexy Sheriff Jack.

Ms. Kappes writes beautifully and includes enough backstory that you don't need to read her previous releases, but once you read A Ghostly Reunion, you'll be hooked. The ending came as a big surprise and now I can't wait for the next release.
