Ex-cop
Georgia Thornton and her boyfriend Scott are contestants again
on yet another reality TV show. This time the show is Cold
Case in the Castle and the teams of contestants are tasked
with solving a nearly 50 year old murder. To make matters
worse, the castle is supposedly haunted!
While
reality television can be entirely scripted, it doesn’t
work out that way this time. As it happens, the groundskeeper
for the castle is found murdered – found by Georgia,
of course, shortly after the show begins. Everyone is a suspect
but yet everyone must find a way to cooperate before anyone
else gets hurt. That plan doesn’t work when Georgia
herself is injured, first by falling threw a rotting floor
on the third story of the castle, and then by a head injury,
and later she’s imprisoned in a solitary confinement
room!
Another
murder also happens, and it’s one of the contestants!
Will the danger never end? Is it supernatural in nature?
What
a fun mystery to try and solve! The concept of the reality
TV contest is unique and the characters actions believable.
I’m a fairly savvy cozy reader and I didn’t come
close to solving this case until near the end of the book.
I enjoyed
Georgia as a strong woman protagonist, and the interaction
of the other contestants and production staff kept me interested
throughout the whole book. I haven’t read the previous
two books in the series, but I sure intend to, and hope that
there will be a fourth.
If you
are looking for a light cozy, with some romance and a touch
of the supernatural as well as some history and an unusual
setting, you won’t want to miss Third Time’s
a Crime.
