Duncreigan,
Scotland is officially the new home of Fiona Knox, formerly
of Tennessee. Fiona, who inherited her godfather’s cottage
and magical garden, is elated to be opening her flower shop,
the Climbing Rose Flower Shop in Aberdeenshire.
Parish
minister Quaid MacCullen darkens the doorstep of the flower
shop before it is even open for business. His manner is churlish,
his disdain for Fiona and her shop obvious, and his words
are threatening. During the grand opening party at the flower
shop, volunteer police chief Kipling barges in, announces
that there has been a murder and faints. Craig, the chief
inspector is at the party as a guest and takes charge of the
situation. It appears that the dead man is Quaid MacCullen
and it becomes clear that Craig will have to consider Fiona
a suspect in the murder Meanwhile, Neil Craig and Fiona are
considering each other romantically.
The
addition of Fiona’s sister Isla is a welcome one. It
was nice to revisit characters from the first book as well
and to enjoy watching relationships grow and change. I still
love the animal inhabitants including the fox and the squirrel,
both of whom have enchanting personalities. There is also
a smart cat named Ivanhoe to add feline mysticism to the tale.
Mystery
buffs everywhere will enjoy this cozy mystery. It’s
like a ticket to Scotland for your imagination!
