When
the world seems too busy, it’s always a treat to enjoy
the pace of Athena, Mississippi, and the lives of Charlie
Harris, his Maine coon cat, Diesel, their family, friends,
and other townspeople. And five new kittens, too!
The Cat
in the Stacks books are truly a gift to readers When it is
a Christmas season book, it feels as though it is wrapped
festively with a big bow as you become engaged in the stories
and try to unwrap the mystery.
The first
mystery is where the box of five kittens found on Charlie’s
doorstep came from? It seems a child left them along with
a mysterious note about someone threatening them. Charlie
and Diesel to the rescue! But before Charlie can get too involved
with finding out who left the kittens for him to take care
of, his new neighbor, Gerry Albritten throws a fancy holiday
party.
Gerry
is a generally unlikable woman, but no one can find out much
about her past. She claims to be native to Athena, but no
one remembers her. So that’s the second mystery.
The third
mystery is presented when Gerry suddenly keels over dead at
her own party! Although Charlie (and Diesel) have been involved
in solving other murders, he vows to keep out of this one
and leave it to the police. Then he decides that a little
sleuthing into who Gerry really was would be okay. Wouldn’t
it?
As is
true of all of the books in this series, this is a wonderful
read. Another special feature is the cover art done by Dan
Craig. Craig is an amazing talent and his artwork has graced
this series for years.
For mystery
lovers, for cat lovers, for lovers of the south, this is another
book you won’t want to be without. What a purr-fect
gift idea, too!
