Napa
Valley wineries traditionally press grapes during Crush Week
and that brings in hordes of tourists. In Nouvelle Vie, business
owner Mimi Rousseau is swamped with work running her restaurant
Bistro and Maison Rousseau, a popular inn. It’s also
the week for the Sweet Treats Festival where delicious desserts
are sold all day making it a popular attraction.
Chef
Camille is the French chef who runs the Bistro kitchen, and
her sister, Renee is managing the festival. While Chef C is
adored by all, Renee has a knack for upsetting people and
is hard pressed to find any friends in town. Renee is murdered,
in Camille’s kitchen at home, and Chef C falls hard
into grief and is unfortunately considered a suspect.
There
are plenty of other people who had motives to kill Renee,
and as Mimi sets out to find the murderer, and get the police
to look further than Camille, she soon realizes that she’s
asking too many questions and is in the killer’s crosshairs
herself!
Author
Daryl Wood Gerber is right on point with this mystery packed
with interesting twists and turns and a setting that will
make you wish you could attend the Sweet Treats Festival.
I was surprised at who the killer was as there were plenty
of suspects and this one was low on my radar. That’s
a hallmark of a good mystery writer who is able to keep the
reader guessing and turning those pages as the tale unfolds.
