Eleanor
Wilde pretends to be psychic. People in Sussex consider her
their resident witch. Madame Eleanor does provide services
that benefit her clients, but she doesn’t perform them
paranormally. She reads people well and finds ways to allay
their fears and help put “spirits to rest” as
well as solving a wide variety of problems for those who believe
in her.
Eleanor’s boyfriend, Nicholas has switched their vacation
plans from scuba diving in Malta to a working trip to Airgead
Island, Scotland, where a castle and hidden heirlooms await
her skills in talking to spirits with the hopes of finding
said heirlooms. At the last minute, Nicholas is called away
on business and Eleanor finds herself on a train where she
is unexpectedly joined by another psychic. The other psychic
is Birdie White, who is a famous clairvoyant. Birdie throws
herself into her role with her over-the-top appearance and
theatrics. Whether or not either woman will be able to help
Sid Stewart reach out to the late family patriarch Glenn Stewart,
and learn where the heirlooms are, remains to be seen. There
is a curse on the treasure, but will it be breakable or not?
I don’t want to give away too much, so what I will do
instead is tell you that I was hooked on this book from the
first page. I liked Eleanor right away for her self-awareness,
intellect, and attitude. The atmosphere on Airgead Island
is spooky and charged and a power failure enhances the scare
factor. There is a healthy dose of humor mixed in with the
mystery and the paranormal making the story quite well-rounded.
While this is the third book in the series, I enjoyed it as
a stand-alone book. However, my goal is to get copies of the
first two books as soon as possible. I highly recommend that
you get yourself a copy of Curses are for Cads as
soon as you can!
