Death at a Country Mansion introduces readers to Daisy Thorne, a popular hairstylist, in the village of Edgemead in Surrey, England. Daisy is also studying forensic science and gets caught up in trying to solve the murder of famed opera singer, Dame Serena Levante. Daisy is friends with Serena’s daughter, Floria, and sets off to help solve the murder.

The title is very fitting as Serena was murdered in her country mansion. The characterization of Daisy is well developed, more than in other cozies. Serena’s character is well hated which leads to a large amount of suspects but not an overwhelming amount. Death at a Country Mansion has several interesting plot developments that help readers not determine the true suspect until the very end. The scenes at Daisy’s hair salon seem out of place but this reader thinks that it will matter in future books in the series.

Overall, this is one of the better mysteries that this reader has read. It has several suspects and interesting characters that make it enjoyable and quick paced. Cozy mystery fans should check out this new series set in the England countryside.
