Mrs
Claus and the Santaland Slayings introduces readers to
April, an inn owner in Oregon, who just happens to be married
to Nick, the next Santa Claus. Upon arriving at her husband’s
family home in the North Pole, the murder of an elf takes
place. This elf, Giblet, had a public argument with Nick and
accused him of murder. With hardly any crime in Christmastown,
the constable does not how to conduct a proper investigation
and hires, Jake Frost, a private investigator. Upon meeting
with Jake, April learns that Nick is the prime suspect and
vows to find out who the real killer is but can she do so
without any more murders, including her own?
Ms. Ireland
does a great job in establishing so many different characters
based upon the Christmas stories and carols that have been
passed down for generations. There are plenty of suspects
and that makes for an interesting murder mystery to solve.
The setting of Christmastown is unusual--honestly, who would
think that any murders or crime would happen in the happiest
place in the world? But it adds to the enjoyment of the crime
solving.
If you’re
a fan of cozy mysteries, murder mysteries or even just Christmas,
then you should enjoy Mrs. Claus and the Santaland Slayings.
This reader is interested in seeing how this is going to be
a series and how the characters will be developed in future
stories.
