Teddie St. John is a mystery writer, a baker, and a breast
cancer survivor. She lives in Lake Potawatomi, Wisconsin with
her American Eskimo dog, Gracie. Her mother, Claire St. John
lives in a cottage behind Teddie’s bungalow. Mother
and daughter attend a book signing by best- selling author
Tavish Bentley where, in the throes of a menopausal hot-flash
that sent her running for the cold water tap in the ladies’
room, Teddie overhears an argument between two women about
Tavish and who he belongs with. Once the women have left the
room Teddie discovers that the scarf she had taken off had
been stolen. Probably stolen by the person, the one who didn’t
speak, who had quickly entered and left the area before the
other two came in.
Kristi is strangled with Teddie’s scarf, and Teddie’s
dog Gracie discovers the body. Naturally, this makes Teddie
a suspect. There are a few other suspects including Tavish
as he announces that they had ended their engagement days
ago. Then there’s another killing and again Teddie is
a suspect! Teddie and her friends Sharon and Char realize
they’ve got to clear Teddie’s name and catch a
killer!
What a fun beginning to a new cozy series. I liked Teddie
right away and look forward to reading more about her, Gracie,
Sharon, Char, Claire, and the other small-town characters
as the series progresses.
I always like a mystery that I can’t solve quickly and
this book had enough interesting twists that I kept second-guessing
myself and whom I thought the killer was. The author has checked
the boxes that make a book a cozy and recommend you read “Murder
Most Sweet” so you are an insider on a new series from
the start.
Note: There are recipes at the back of the book.
I suggest you read them first and have the ingredients in
the house so you can bake while you read. Or read while you
bake
Reviewer Notes: This author also writes the Phoebe
Grant series and the Getaway Girls series.
