The Damsel in This Dress
By Marianne Stillings

Soldier McKennitt is a police detective and professional author. Betsy Tremaine is a reviewer who hates his books. It is inevitable that they will meet and fall in love.

Days before she plans to leave town, Betsy receives a threatening letter. The police determine that she has attracted a stalker. Deep in denial, Betsy goes to the writers’ conference as planned. When she arrives, she notices an incredibly handsome man. He stares at her, sits by her, and attempts to engage her in conversation. Betsy deduces that this man must be the stalker. She’s too plain to attract anybody that handsome.

McKennitt is attending a writer’s conference when he notices an extremely beautiful woman. He is overwhelmed with the urge to meet her. He stares longingly at her. He sits by her. He tries to engage her in conversation but for some reason, she seems wary of him.

When McKennitt discovers that Betsy is the reviewer who has been so critical of his writing, he is shocked. He always pictured the critic as a shriveled old prune. This is a goddess.

The actual stalker has followed Betsy to the conference. The torment escalates. Incidents range from locking a dog in a mini bar to murder. McKennitt sets aside his writers hat and assumes his role as detective. He is determined to stop the stalker who is threatening the woman he has already fallen for. No one is going to get to Betsy without going through McKennitt first.

Seeking safety, Betsy and McKennitt leave the conference and head to her home. McKennitt calls his brother, Taylor who is a cop, to come help keep his woman safe. Shortly after he arrives, the stalker strikes, sending Taylor to the hospital. There he meets Betsy’s best friend, the captivating Dr. Claire. Hereafter, a second romance begins to brew.

This story is sexy, exciting and very funny. It has great dialogue and convincing characters. Some are loveable and some are despicable, but all are interesting. I can’t wait to read this author’s next effort. This is a great book!
