Always Time to Die

by Elizabeth Lowell

Lowell (aka Ann Maxwell) begins her latest romantic suspense with a murder. U.S. Senator Andrew Jackson Quintrell III, the patriarch of a prominent family is dying, but evidently not fast enough because someone slips into his room and commits murder.

Carly May is a genealogist hired by Winifred Simmons y Castillo. Winifred wants her to so some family research on the women of her family. It seems the family has many legitimate and illegitimate members. Dan Duran is one of the children born on the other side of the blanket. Dan helps Carly with the research but eventually becomes a bodyguard -- and a target when Carly's life is threatened. A hostile relationship between the two turns to moral support as it all becomes even more dangerous. Dan knows there is a secret; he's just not sure what it is. Carly's skeleton shaking is about to bring it to light. Can the family handle it? Will Carly and Dan survive it?

Lowell delivers another interesting suspense. The suspense is skillfully delivered throughout the twist and turns. The only thing I found irritating was the multitude of verbal insults about the Quintrell family's adulterous anatomy. If you like suspense mixed with a bit of passion and romance, you'll like Always Time to Die.

Maria Tucci narrates the audio version. Her reading style adds to the romantic charge between Carly and Dan. Ladies pass this one around
