Merri
Walters' life changed dramatically two years ago, when she lost
her hearing. Her disability caused her to lose the job she loved,
as well as her fiancée. She picked up the pieces of her shattered
life and slowly rebuilt it, adjusting to her silent world. She is
hired at a local police department as a cold-case file clerk. The
job offered little excitement and no challenge; quickly she found
herself bored. To compensate, she started reading the files before
she filed them away in the archives. One case in particular caught
her interest enough that she decides to take a week's vacation and
do her own undercover work. She doesn't realize the danger she is
in until she is forced to call for Detective Steven Barlow for backup.
Together they are able to bring the case to a successful close.
Merri's heroics do not go unnoticed when the Chief of Police realizes
that her ability to read lips played a key role in solving the cold-case.
He makes her an offer that she can't refuse: to work undercover
to bring down known mobster Luther Hammond. The assignment would
involve her working inside the mobster's compound as a maid. She
would learn the inside secrets that the house offered, and the occupants
would not suspect her of working undercover. If she is successful,
he promises her that she can have any position at the precinct.
She jumps at the opportunity, for it will provide her the challenge
her life is lacking. Going undercover is more than she bargained
for; she is careful of her every move. One slip-up could be enough
reason for them to put an end to her life.
WOW!
Those that crave adrenaline overflow must read this book. From page
one, the characters explode off the pages with their highly intense
action. More than once I caught myself holding my breathing as I
turned the page. This book is one of the best I have read in this
series. Don't miss adding it to your keeper shelf. Very highly recommended.
