Doctor's make the worst patients . . .
Dr. Pete Morgan is haunted by the memories of the one that changed his life forever.
He and his best friend Rachel had everything in life they could desire. Both of them
were successful doctors who were making their mark in the medical world. One night after
a hectic night working in the emergency room they encounter a life altering situation.
Pete decided to take a quick break while Rachel stayed behind to prepare for the next
patient. As he approached the elevator he was caught off guard by the sound of a gunshot
coming from where he had left Rachel minutes before. He immediately ran back to where
he had left her and was horrified to see Rachel's lifeless body lying on the ground. In
shock, he wasn't aware that the shooter was still present and already taking aim at him.
The shot knocked him off his feet. As blackness engulfed him the last conscious thought
he had was of the guilt he felt over Rachel's senseless death.
Physical Therapist Maggie Holm is hired by Pete Morgan's family to help their son
regain the full use of his legs. Upon seeing her patient, she realizes he is not the same
man as she remembered from the hospital cafeteria. The one who always had a smile on his
face. Instead, his eyes seem empty and meaningless. His reluctance to accept her help
is to be expected, but his determination not to help himself has her concerned. She knows
that in order to begin to heal him she must get him away from his overprotective parents.
She makes the decision to take him away to her family summer lake home. The peaceful
serenity and the isolation will give her the opportunity to break through the walls of
his resistance. But will she be able to turn him back into the man who was once so full
of life?
Michelle Celmer has written an outstanding book. Its memorable characters are so fully
developed you will have a hard time realizing that they are a work of fiction. All elements
are superbly complete in this memorable book. The ending leaves an emotional impact that
will stay in the reader's heart for a long time to come. Very highly recommended.
