Redemption
by Carolyn Davidson
Jake McPherson's life has been filled with great pain and loss. First as a soldier in
the Civil War he sacrificed his legs to a country torn apart by divided loyalties. Then
the final heartbreak comes in the form of his wife, Rena's untimely death. Mourning her
loss, he shuts himself off from the outside world and all the pain it represents. His
days are filled with great sorrow as he relives each precious memory Rena and he shared.
He goes through each day in a daze; his only purpose in living is for his young son Jason.
When he looks upon his son's image it brings back a small piece of the great love forever
lost to him.
Alicia Merriweather is the town's teacher. Out of concern for one of her students, she
pays a visit to the boy's home. She immediately senses her presence is not welcome when
she encounters a sign that reads 'No visitors. No peddlers. No admittance'. She decides
to not let the sign stop her from attending to the business she came to discuss. Forging
on into the house she encounters Jason McPherson's father Jake. Jake harshly demands she
leave his property. She decides to stand her ground and refuses to leave. His haunted eyes
reveal a man calling out for warmth and understanding. With quick wit and determination
she convinces him to allow her into their lives. She knows her spinster status and plain
looks will never attract the love her soul craves. But by being able to help Jake and Jason
it gives new meaning to her life's purpose.
With great pleasure this reviewer gives Redemption the highest marks she has ever
attributed to any book she has reviewed. This heartwarming story is one that is so worthy
of this noble title. Words can't even begin to describe all the emotions I felt as I read
each page in this book. The characters are so memorable, I still get a warm feeling whenever
I look back and remember them. If you are an author reading this book, this is the style
you need to base your future books on. For any publisher - this is the type of book your
readers wish to see! Highest regards go out to Carolyn Davidson for what I feel is
truly a work of art and greatness. Very, very highly recommended. |
