Dead Girls Are Easy
by Terri Garey
When Nicki Styx has a near death experience, she comes back a little stranger than when she left. She has a new
mandate to help others and a new gift. Only, Nicki isn't feeling all that gifted. It seems the recently-dead
visit her now, and they all want her help - plus some of them are willing to play rough to get it. If this
sounds a little like Ghost Whisperer, well, it is, only without the soft mushy center. Nicki is sassy,
stubborn, and sexy.
It turns out her near death experience brought her one other goodie too - a hot doctor with an interest in
Nicki that goes well beyond professional.
The romance side of the story is really quite refreshing since it isn't based on two characters who
immediately hate each other with a sex charged passion (yes, I am tired of those), nor does it spin on romantic
conflicts based on stupidity (you won't find yourself yelling - just talk to him, stupid!). The bad ghost bits
are spooky and tense, just the way I like them. Garey does a nice job with Nicki's sassy voice, and Nicki's
over-the-top gay friend, Evan, is a hoot (even if just the eensiest bit stereotypical.) The pace of the story is
brisk, making it a great light read. This book may not be deep and meaningful, but it's fast and fun, which
is the kind of reading ride I like best. |
