High Noon
by Nora Roberts
Lt. Phoebe MacNamara is the best hostage negotiator in the Savannah, Georgia police department. She is asked to
try to prevent a suicidal sports-bartender from jumping off a roof on St. Patrick’s Day. Duncan Swift, the sports
bar owner who had fired him for stealing is also present to try to prevent this. He is fascinated by Phoebe and
in the aftermath a romance develops. There is tension in the relationship. Phoebe has problems with commitment.
She has been hurt in previous affairs, has a seven-year old daughter and an agoraphobic mother who hasn't
recovered from the trauma after a break-in at the family home years ago. When Phoebe is brutally attacked in her
own precinct house and an unknown person terrorizes her both professionally and personally, she turns to Duncan
for support and solace.
This is a thoroughly entertaining book, rich in danger, filled with thrilling suspense, and romance. The
characters are well developed and real people. Phoebe, surrounded by a tremendous family, is strong and
courageous in her personal and professional life - a tough woman but with a soft heart. Duncan is confident,
persistent and utterly charming - just the man any woman would like to have loving her. The story is well-plotted
with the action continual against the backdrop of sultry Savannah, Georgia.
Just the book to fill a few pleasant hours of enjoyment |
