A Kiss in Winter
by Susan Crandall
Set in a small town in Kentucky, A Kiss in Winter tells the story of Caroline Rogers, a woman with a tragic
past, who meets Dr. Mick Larsen, a psychiatrist trying to escape his own personal demons. Although they feel an
instant attraction, their romance is hindered by her responsibilities to her two orphaned teenaged siblings and by
her budding career as a photographer, which is moving away from covering local weddings and towards working as a
staffer with a national magazine.
A bizarre string of crimes brings them together, however. Caroline notices that the landmarks featured in her
photography calendar are being sabotaged each month in order of their appearance. Even worse, the crimes are
accelerating from vandalism to violence. She enlists Mick’s aid in profiling the criminal and serving as her
personal protector.
Crandall has written an interesting mystery romance with well-developed characters and a strong sense of place.
The cold winter nights described in the book will make you want to curl up under a blanket as you read. The physical
intimacy is implied rather than described, and you’re likely to guess the culprit long before Caroline and Mick do,
but this sweet romance will draw you into the story and make you care about the characters. |
