My Lady’s Treasure
by Catherine Kean
In this Medieval historical romance, a penniless widow hides a gold chalice as her means of winning back a
kidnapped little girl. When Brant Meslarches, a scarred Crusade hero, meets the lovely Lady Faye Rivellaux,
during a rough storm, to collect the ransom, he expects her to be unable to meet his demands. Instead, he is
stunned to discover the valuable chalice in her possession. Brant finds himself torn between his obligation to
the evil Lord Torr Lorvais, who has forced him into doing his bidding, and to the delicate woman, who pleads for
the life of the kidnapped child.
When Faye injures herself during the storm, Brant must carry her away to safety or leave her to perish in the
wilderness. Being a man of honor, he naturally takes her to the nearest lodging and helps heal her wounds. As
the two get to know each other better, Brant and Faye sense a growing attraction and a sameness in which each of
them hides a dark, traumatic secret. When Faye steals back the cup and heads off to find the child on her own,
Brant comes charging after her with unknown intentions.
My Lady’s Treasure follows Kean’s delightful Medieval romantic novels Dance of Desire and
A Knight’s Vengeance. While the new book again displays the author’s painstaking research into the
customs, clothes, food, and life of the Middle Ages, My Lady’s Treasure contains fewer romantic scenes
than the previous novels and a weaker heroine, who foolishly sides with her lecherous benefactor and mistrusts the
heroic deeds of the man who saves her from certain death. Although the characters are not as richly drawn here
as in Kean’s other novels, My Lady’s Treasure still offers a fun romantic escape through Medieval times. |
