When a co-worker, Marcee, talks Jenny Carman into going out for some drinks, Jenny agrees. Just passed up for
promotion at the CPA firm where she works, Jenny’s disillusioned and wants a change. She decides to adopt the
persona of her late grandmother’s friend, Jasmine Coret - a vivacious woman who lived an exciting life, but
died young.
That evening, Jenny sheds her accountant attire for a sexy red dress, determined to release a little bit of
the "bad girl" inside her. When she spies a single businessman sitting alone and their eyes meet, she feels an
immediate connection and wonders what Jasmine would do if she wanted a handsome man.
Robert Marshall wants only to relax with his friend, Kyle, drinking a few beers and playing darts, but Kyle
leaves early to join his girlfriend. Suddenly, a beautiful blonde sits at his table - the same blonde he noticed
the moment he walked into the bar. Naturally, Robert’s intrigued as she introduces herself as Jasmine and they
start talking. Soon they end up at Robert’s home for a sexy interlude. Although Jenny and Robert intended their
meeting to be a one-night stand, fate keeps putting them in each other’s presence. Robert is amazed that "Jasmine"
has a fascinating ability to understand finances, and Jenny finds herself falling for Robert, a bit of a loner
like herself.
But when Robert’s younger brother calls him to ask for help with the family business, Jenny realizes that it’s
the same company she worked for previously through her CPA firm. Later, when the brother specifically requests her
for an audit, she’s certain Robert will discover her there and realize she’s not the alluring woman she pretends to
be.
When She Was Bad by Cindy Kirk is an enjoyable, sexy and tantalizing read. The story’s premise is not
uncommon, but Ms. Kirk’s writing carries the one-night stand theme to a delightful level. Jenny’s desire to
experience life as an alter-ego has its tender, touching and often humorous moments, and a sexy, troubled hero
like Robert added extra enjoyment to this enchanting story.
