Before I Wake:
The Nightmare Chronicles
by Kathryn Smith
Dawn Riley is a psychologist who works at the MacCallum Sleep and Dream Research Center in New York City. She
works in dream analysis and therapy, with a heavy emphasis on nightmares. Dawn's father is The King of Dreams
(the shaper of dreams) and her mother is a mere mortal. Dawn being from both worlds is able to transport herself
from one dimension to another. It's tough for Dawn to be analytical and clinical when she knows all too well that
there really are things that defy science - in fact, she happens to be one of them.
Noah Clarke is a lucid dreamer and is a patient of Dawn's and in her dream study group. Noah confides in Dawn
that his dreams are trying to kill him. Dawn knows all too well that this is true. There have been several people
dying suddenly in their sleep. Science calls it Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome but Dawn knows
it's really something invading their dreams and killing them. It's up to Dawn to stop "it" from killing anymore.
Dawn must return to her father (in the other realm that she turned her back on years ago) in her search for answers
to save Noah's life. She must revisit the great city of Dreaming and destroy "it" before "it" destroys both
her and Noah... and all this must be done before she wakes.
Before I Wake: The Nightmare Chronicles is a great book to read for some escapism . I found it to be a
very enjoyable book. Kathryn Smith is a great author who writes well with well-defined characters and a great plot
that holds your interest. Before I Wake is topnotch in the suspense romance genre and I highly recommend it
to others. |
