The Carstairs Conspiracy
by Wendy Soliman
Most people would think that Abigail Carstairs is the luckiest girl alive; she is the only child of the late Duke
of Penrith and heiress to his vast estate, she is beautiful, well loved by her guardians and about to experience her
first Season. But all is not well, for she is convinced that somebody is trying to kill her. On hearing that
notorious rake Lord Sebastian Denver is known for solving problems, she applies to him, and thus a plan is made to
trap the would-be assassin.
There is a double treat in here, with not only a romance but also a puzzle to solve. Abigail makes for a sweet
and levelheaded heroine, while Sebastian seems rather sensible and serious for the rakehell he is renowned to be.
He is on his best behavior in this book at all times! Romance as such takes something of a backseat, with the
would-be killer to be unmasked taking center stage. This is handled well, with plenty of suspects and a real house
party setting for the dark deed to take place. Those wanting a straight romance might be better off looking
elsewhere, but if, like this reviewer, you enjoy this type of tale this is entertaining fare. I will be looking for
more from this author. |
