China Dolls
A Novel
by Michelle Yu and Blossom Kan
Three Chinese-American young women are looking for careers and love in New York City. The three have been friends
since childhood. There is Alix, a lawyer still recovering from an unrequited college love, MJ who dreams of being
an on-air sports broadcaster in an all male club and Lin, a stockbroker who may jeopardize her job with a new
recruit at work who is the office playboy.
These women are highly successful financially but are tired of having to balance their careers and way of life
with the expectations of their families to live up to the Asian traditions.
This is a fast, fun read with likeable heroines. Consider it to be Sex in the City "Chinese style." It
is fun traveling from booze drenched corporate parties to Chinese fortune tellers with a shopper's guide to Chinese
shopping and restaurants. There are insights into the Asian culture and the conflict of family values with present
day life.
Well written in a breezy style that makes this a fast and enjoyable read. |
