Daredevil's Run
Silhouette Romantic Suspense

by Kathleen Creighton

Five years ago, Matt Pearson’s life went spinning out of control the day he was injured in a rock climbing fall.  On that day he lost his ability to walk and pushed the woman he loved out of his life.  He could not watch someone he cared for so deeply tied to someone who could not do the things they once enjoyed doing together.

Alex Penny was crushed by Matt’s rejection.  She loved him unconditionally; his inability to walk did not take away from the love she felt for him.  She continued with her life by running the rafting business she and Matt had built together.  In her heart was an empty space left the day Matt decided to live his life without her.

Cory Pearson was the long-lost brother that Matt never knew existed.  Being the oldest, Cory watched his family torn apart the night his father shot his mother and then turned the gun on himself.  Overnight Cory saw his brothers and sisters placed in foster homes and soon after adopted.  Being the oldest but underage, he was powerless to stop the chain of events.  Years later, his wife, Sam, encouraged him to locate his missing family.  He took her advice and was able to track down his brother, Wade, who knew where to find his other brother, Matt.

Cory was disheartened to learn that Matt was paralyzed.  Before going to see him, Cory decided to pay a visit to Matt’s former girlfriend, Alex, to gain some insight on what to expect with Matt.  He saw in Alex’s eyes a woman haunted by the events of his brother’s accident.  Cory recognized she still held strong feelings toward his brother.

When Cory finally gets to meet Matt, he also discovers Matt still has feelings for Alex but tries to hide them.  Cory decides to help reunite the couple.  On the pretense he wants to take his wife rafting, he invites Matt to accompany him.

Matt’s daredevil instincts can’t resist an opportunity to once again be on the untamed water.  When Matt selects a Class V trip, Alex insists that two Class V Guides accompany the group.  With such a low ratio of Class V guides, Alex has no other choice than to accompany the group to ensure they are safe.

On the water Matt is his own man who commands his own vessel.  He has no need for legs to be in control of the wildwater ride the river offers.  Alex admires his strength and courage. She sees him as the man he once was, perfect in every way.  But there is one who is intent on keeping the two apart and will stop at nothing to ensure they are not reunited.

Those who seek a high-action adventure should definitely read Daredevil’s Run.  The ending will literally take you by surprise, for it is one you would not expect.  This book was SO good that I read it again days after I finished it the first time.  Kathleen Creighton, you are a writer who knows how to provide the ultimate reading pleasure for your readers.  I look forward to reading more of this highly addictive series.  Very highly recommended.
