Dead Ringer
Sequel to I'm Watching You

by Mary Burton

Burton capitalizes on what she does best in what I would term a sequel to I'm Watching You (also reviewed on Myshelf.com).  Dead Ringer brings back a character who took a secondary role to Zack in the first book, Detective Jacob Warwick.  Warwick is more on the edge and harder core in this book.  His hard exterior houses a heart that can love and be hurt.

After one of the most extensive manhunts in his career, Detective Jacob Warwick is ready for some peace and quiet.  He's not sure that's possible for he can't get anchorwoman Kendall Shaw out of his mind.  The feisty and sometimes hard-hearted woman got under his skin when she was almost killed by a serial killer.  It was then his attraction to her grew into something more.

Kendall still has nightmares about her near death experience.  It took her months to recover physically and mentally from that dark time in her life.  She still sees her rescuer, Detective Warwick, around town but isn't quite sure how she feels about a man who saw her at her lowest.

When a new spate of murders begins, she is forced to come to terms with her feelings when Jacob becomes her shadow.  Jacob is falling hard and fast for Kendall, something he doesn't need when faced with a murder investigation.  The fact that all the victims resemble Kendall fills his heart with terror.  When the killer gets closer to Kendall, Jacob prays he will be there to stop him before he adds Kendall to his macabre death count.
