Druid Quest
by Cornelia Amiri
Cornelia Amiri has spent 15 years researching the ancient Celts, using that background to write four Celtic romances:
The Fox Prince,
The Vixen Princess,
Danger Is Sweet, and
One Heart One Way (a finalist
in the EPPIE 2004 Contest). Her latest, a short work called Druid Quest, tells the tale of Sulwen, a
priestess who has survived the Roman slaughter of the Druid training center where she lived. Obeying a message from
the goddess Andraste, Sulwen sets out alone on a quest to find Boudica, Queen of the Iceni. Bouidica is one of the
most significant figures in British history, a woman who led the Britains in revolt against Roman occupation, even
burning London and other Roman strongholds. When Sulwen finds Boudica before the queen's last battle, Sulwen comes
into conflict with her soulmate, Archdruid Rhys, who has been assisting the queen. Not only must Sulwen deal with
the pending battle but she must contend with Rhys's different interpretation of the messages of the goddess she has
been given.
Amiri fills the pages of Druid Quest with details about the culture of these ancient peoples, especially
their rites and ceremonies. She has been able to flesh out this significant moment in British history, adding her
own unique interpretation. Though I enjoyed this book, I wanted a bit more. I would suggest to the author to add
more description and color to her work. |
