Lady's Choice

by Amanda Scott

Lady's Choice is a fourteenth century historical romance. It is filled with historical detail about Scotland. The story alternates between Adela and her captor, the evil Waldron, and Sir Hugo and Sorcha's developing relationship.

I enjoyed reading about Adela's conflicting feelings towards Waldron and the relationship developing between Hugo and Sorcha even though Sorcha's character was a bit annoying.

April 14, 1380 in the Scottish Highlands and Adela MacLeod is about to marry Lord Pompous. Sorcha (Adela's younger sister) believes it is Sir Hugo Robison who holds Adela's heart. During the wedding ceremony Adela is kidnapped by four masked horsemen. Lady Sorcha believes it to be Sir Hugo who kidnapped her sister but soon discovers that Sir Hugo had nothing whatsoever to do with the kidnapping. Adela's abductor is Waldron of Edgelaw, an evil man seeking revenge, believing he is the almighty hand of God.

Sorcha and Sidony (both younger sisters to Adela) go in search of Adela. Sir Hugo and his men also set off in search of Adela and Hugo's evil cousin, Waldron. Isobel, another of the MacLeod daughters is abducted by Waldron. Waldron's plan is to use the MacLeod daughters as bait to trap Michael, Isobel's husband, and Sir Hugo to learn what he can from them about the hidden treasure protected by Scottish descendants of the Knights Templar.

Hugo wonders what demon has possessed him to fall in love with Sorcha. She holds no resemblance to the eventual wife of his imagination.
