Like No Other Lover
Second Book in the Pennyroyal Green Series

by Julie Anne Long

During a lengthy house party at the estate of the wealthy Redmond family, the beautiful flirt Cynthia Brightly finds herself in a terrible predicament.  Although invited by Violet Redmond to attend her family’s elaborate party, Cynthia has nowhere to go afterward.  With no family members, no money, and no place in society, she will be forced to give up her life of luxury unless she finds a wealthy man to marry her... immediately.  Luckily an assortment of rich fellows have been invited to the Redmond party — even if none of them are to her liking.

Cynthia’s beauty and power over men gained her a position in elite society for a while, until a scandal involving a broken engagement and dueling lovers (caused by that same beauty and power over men) got her thrown out of London society.  Now she needs to secure her future by marrying into a family that can provide her with what she lacks.  If she doesn’t find a mate quickly, she will be forced into accepting a low-paying job as an attendant with a cranky old woman who can’t hold on to her hired help because of her displeasing personality.

When Cynthia meets Violet’s bespectacled entomologist brother Miles again, after a disastrous first encounter, they instantly feel an attraction. But Miles has already agreed to marry another woman who also happens to be attending the house party.  So when he isn’t courting his intended and Cynthia isn’t scouting out available heirs to wed, they are sneaking off to quiet alcoves and empty rooms for passionate — and strictly forbidden — encounters.

Complete with fortune-telling gypsies, target practice mishaps, romantic interludes, practical jokes, and embarrassing misunderstandings, Like No Other Lover provides a highly entertaining story told with great passion.  The hero, as a working entomologist, also provides an interesting switch from the usual darkly sardonic dukes who dominate most historical romances.  Julie Anne Long succeeds in bringing readers the perfect blend of romance, story, and humor in her latest work.
