Love Begins With Truth
by Marsha Jones
Meredith Johnson has been friends with Phillip Rampersaud for several years, since they were children. Little did
either one of them know the true feelings that each other had for the other. Both married and lived in separate
states—Meredith in NY, Phillip in Georgia. 9/11 hits the nation and both reach out to let the other know how
important their friendship has been. The truth slowly leaks out, and both are faced with a dilemma. Can Phillip and
Meredith remain friends despite their true feelings for each other, or does life see them on a different path?
In Marsha Jones’ debut novel, she focuses on culture, romance, friendship and the importance that all three have
on each other. Meredith is portrayed as a strong Guyanese-American woman who balances work and family. She is easy
to relate to for any woman. The love and friendship that Meredith and Phillip have for each other is sincere and
genuine. It is not a fantasy love that does not seem real. It is strong and viable, able to withstand a lot.
The reunion between Meredith and Phillip is expected and fulfilled in a sudden moment.
Some may question some of the antics of Phillip and Meredith as they are married to other people and feel that
they do not fully respect their spouses. Ms. Jones handles that effectively, and the ending is right for the
characters. Readers should be satisfied with the conclusion and how the characters are handled. |
