Married Lovers

by Jackie Collins

Twenty four year old personal trainer Cameron Paradise flees Hawaii and her abusive husband, Gregg.  She begins to work in Bounce, one of Los Angeles' most exclusive private fitness clubs.  Her closest friends are Lydia, the receptionist, Dorian, a gay fitness trainer, and Cole deDouse, also a gay trainer.  She concentrates on her work, hoping to save enough money to open her own fitness studio.

Despite her determination to exclude herself from the Los Angeles power scene, she becomes involved with Don Verona, a dynamic talk show host. When she meets Don's friend, Ryan Richards, an independent movie producer, it is love and lust at first sight.  But Ryan is unhappily married to Mandy, daughter of J Heckerling, a much married movie mogul.

Also, there is Lucy Standard, a once famous movie star, married to Phil, a philandering, award winning screen writer. She wants to make a comeback.

And there is Anya, who at 15 witnesses her family being killed and her home burned. She was sexually abused and raped for a number of years by various "protectors," until Ryan rescued her and enabled her to emigrate to the United States, where she eventually married Heckerling.

Cameron realizes her dream of a fitness studio, only to be discovered by her irate husband, who is interested in mayhem and sets a course for murder.

Married Lovers gives a bird's eye view of life among the beautiful and powerful. The plot is intense, with interesting characters, who are intent on fulfilling their desires.  There is the usual Jackie Collins sexual language, which of course is appropriate to the story and its characters.

Married Lovers is a perfect book for relaxing at the beach or the poolside.
